Environmental awareness
We are committed to incorporating ecological considerations into planning for all areas from the very outset. This applies to product development, the acquisition of new technology and building planning. Several projects at DMG have focused and continue to focus on reducing packaging. Among other initiatives, we have also joined forces with the start-up Praxis ohne Plastik [Practice Without Plastic].
Environmental protection begins at home
At our Hamburg site, we are doing our best to set the course for greater sustainability. Our new building is a 55 EE Energy-Efficient Building.
It consumes just 55% of the primary energy that a reference building would use, and the amount of heat it loses due to transmission is 30% lower. Approximately 1,000 square metres of roof space each will be used for photovoltaic systems and green roofs – which, alongside the energy benefits, will also promote biodiversity.
Through collaborative projects such as our DMG raised beds and the planting of a wildflower meadow, our goal is to raise our employees’ awareness of nature.
Our high level of vertical integration also makes a key contribution to environmental protection. We carry out nearly all the steps in manufacturing our products ourselves, right here on site. This cuts down on transport routes and the associated environmental impact.
Promoting alternative mobility
DMG actively supports its employees in making mobility more environmentally friendly. For example, we offer attractive company bike leasing with the “JobRad” scheme and encourage the use of public transport by subsidising the ProfiCard and Deutschland-Ticket travel card. Electric Smart cars are available to our employees for business trips. With the new Building 6, three new charging stations have been added for electric vehicles.
Looking ahead
An energy-efficient building, reduced packaging, electric cars and related initiatives are just the beginning. Among other things, we are currently working on formulating specific sustainability targets on a well-founded basis. Sustainability is being driven forward by two institutions that have been established at DMG specifically for this purpose: the Sustainability Team in Corporate Development and the Sustainability Lab, where representatives from various departments meet regularly. The Lab initiates a company-wide, coordinated strategic sustainability focus and drives operational implementation.
