Resin infiltration? – There is the evidence.

Delivered by Prof. Dr. Falk Schwendicke, Charité, Berlin, Germany

Caries infiltration is an innovative concept for managing early caries lesions. Especially on proximal surfaces, it has advantages over traditional restorative care. In the lecture, the concept underlying infiltration is described. The indications and limitations are discussed. The efficacy of infiltration is assessed based on a recently published systematic review and meta-analysis.  It will be demonstrated how infiltration can reduce the risk of lesion progression by over 75% compared against non-invasive treatments. Notably, rigorous clinical and often also radiographic diagnostics are required prior to infiltration. Overall, dentists should consider infiltration in their daily practice, as it is efficacious and useful for avoiding or postponing the need for restorative therapy.

Diagnosis of the depth of the spots: transillumination and photoanalysis

Delivered by Dr. Erik-Jan Muts, MP3 Tandartsen, Apeldoorn, Netherlands

One of the major issues of success with the infiltration of vestibular enamel lesions is the depth of the spots. With Icon Dry (DMG) it is possible to check the permeability of the hypomineralisation during the etching procedure. But what other tools do we have to assess the depth of the lesion? Isolation, transillumination and photography are major important tools, which might also turn out to be very useful when scheduling the treatment. During this webinar we will try to get more insight on the depth of the spots.

Thursday, 6th of August, from 7 PM to 8.30 PM (CEST)

Clinical possibilities using resin infiltration on smooth surfaces

Delivered by Prof. Dr. Leandro Hilgert, University of Brasilia, Brazil

White spot lesions due to caries, enamel fluorosis, traumatic hypomineralizations and cases of molar-incisor hypomineralization may impact anterior teeth appearance and require treatments to improve esthetics. In many of those clinical situations resin infiltration is a great treatment option allying satisfactory esthetic results with minimal enamel sacrifice and a straightforward protocol. This lecture aims to present principles, indications and many clinical cases of resin infiltration on smooth surfaces and its combined use with other available esthetic techniques as tooth bleaching, microabrasion and composite resins.

Followed by a round of talk

At 8.15 PM (CEST) there will be a talk round with:
Dr. Susanne Effenberger (Head of Clinical Research, DMG), Prof. Dr. Schwendicke (Charité, Berlin, Germany), Prof. Erik-Jan Muts (MP3 Tandartsen, Apeldoorn, Netherlands) and Prof. Dr. Leandro Hilgert (University of Brasilia, Brazil)
